Footlights, Market House Theatre's youth acting troupes for grades 1-12, is accepting registrations for its new trimester of classes which begins August 25. All classes meet on Saturdays in MHT’s Studio Theatre classroom located at 120 S. 2nd Street, and are led by MHT’s Education Director April Cochran and drama specialist Katie Hamilton. Students receive classes in acting, theatre games and improvisation as well as produce an annual play. This trimester, the elementary and middle school troupes will participate in acting classes. The classes meet as follows: 8 - 9 a.m. Early Elementary troupe (grades 1 - 3); 9 - 10 a.m. Upper Elementary (grades 4 & 5) ; 10 - 11 a.m. Middle school (grades 6-8); 11 a.m. - noon High School.
The emphasis is on fun, as well as developing acting, teamwork, creativity and communication skills. No previous classes or performing experience is needed. The Elementary troupes focus on learning acting skills using a theatre games format. The Middle school troupe will focus on comedy improvisation. The High school troupe will be taught by Katie Hamilton and will go beyond the basic games of improvisation and explore a more long form of improv as well as utilize improv games and scene work. The final class day for the first trimester will be November 17. Class will not meet September 29.
The FOOTLIGHTS fee is $50 per trimester. FOOTLIGHTS membership is open to anyone, regardless of previous experience. Financial need partial scholarships ($25) are also available.
